Below are most of the things you need to know about our Select Division but should you have any additional questions please contact our VP, Rep & Select, Mark Evangelista at m.evangelista@rogers.com
Historically, select baseball teams were formed by ‘selecting’ the best players from a league’s house league teams. Curently teams for the select division are determined by tryouts held every September. Select baseball players will play in a more competitive environment than house league players against teams from Etobicoke and others from outside our area such as York and Toronto Playgrounds.
Each season Martingrove usually has select teams representing the Rookie Ball (ages 8-9), Mosquito (10-11) , Peewee (12-13), Bantam (14-15) and Midget (16-18) divisions.
The locations and times vary by divisions (age group) and often change from season to season. Please contact our VP, Rep and Select, Mark Evangelista, or the coach of an appropriate age-level team should you need further information.
Opposing teams will vary from division to division and from year to year but usually we will play against local Etobicoke teams from Royal York, Bloordale, Annette, Toronto Playgrounds, York, Rexdale and Weston. Should there be more than one Martingrove teams in a division then those teams will play each other as well.
The costs of a player’s uniform are included in the registration fee and usually consists of two jerseys (away and home), pants and cap. Teams often create team budgets (contributions from players/parents) with which to purchase additional items like bags, jackets, etc.
The Etobicoke Select playoffs usually take place over a weekend in mid August. The winners will qualify to enter the Select Provincial Championships in late August (Midget, Junior) or over the Labour Day weekend (Rookie Ball, Mosquito, Peewee, Bantam)
